Börek, also known as burek, is a type of baked filled pastries made of thin flaky dough known as Filo or phyllo. It comes in many different forms and savory fillings which is an art in itself to make. There are also many different fillings, but the most popular ones today are curd cheese, minced meat, or pizza Börek (filled with melty cheese and tomato sauce. Börek is typically prepared in a large pan and then cut into individual portions after baking. It is loved by the Turkish people as a cheap, warm, and satisfying fast food. [ History ]Börek is said to have been created during the Ottoman period or perhaps even later during the Roman period. It is thought that it may have its origins in Turkish cuisine and developed by the Turks of Central Asia. The word Börek derives from the Turkish language which refers to any dish made of Filo dough, which is a very thin, flaky dough used for making pastries in the Middle East.
